Abstract

The  present  paper  presents  an  evaluation  of  scenarios  that  represents  alternatives  for  the reduction of pollutant emissions produced by daily trips made for study and work motives to a University campus. The scenarios were based on the regulation of the use of private cars by increasing their load factor; the scenarios were useful for analyzing the potential reduction of air pollutants on the city, as the scenarios simulate how trips made by employees and students of one institution or company decrease the total amount of emitted pollutants. Patterns of mobility  for  the  development  of  academic  activities  were  estimated  through  modeling  in the Institución Universitaria in Antioquia, Colombia, a characterization of load factors were made for the institution for all the trips made by private car, in order to estimate, through the  use  of  scenarios  the  achieved  emission  reductions  of  pollutants  emission  when  going from an average load factor of 25% to load factors of 50%, 75% and 100%. The results found in this study are a benchmark for corporate environmental management, since it is possible to implement arrangements arising from the administration and achieve significant reductions in polluting emissions produced by the weekly activity of the institutions.
